PPF - Trees in Watercolor, ACEO size

Cut, cut, cut.

Sometimes I don't like a painting very much, and if it happens to be watercolor, I can cut it into little ACEO/ATC cards - little gems that I find in the bigger piece of art.  Here is one of those 9x12 watercolors that I did not like.

And here are some of the ATC cards I found in it

I know it drives my WC teacher crazy when I do this, but I find it freeing.  Letting go of something that is not quite right, and finding a repurpose for it.  Feels exhilarating.

I will be trading these on atcsforall.com in a watercolor swap.  I enjoy trading with other artists.  My collection is huge!

  1. Penny, I do the same thing. Only I really did like the painting you did before you cut it up. My question is what do you do with all the little ATC sized cards? I collected and swapped them for years so that now I have close to 300 ATCs that other people did I don't know what to do with them. They are not aceos but ATCs and cannot be sold. I am thinking of donating them to our craft group at the nursing home to be used in making greetings cards.

    1. Hi, Faye, That sounds like a good idea. I sell mine on Ebay, trade them in my facebook groups, and do lots of swaps! It keeps me painting. Your idea of donating them for making greeting cards sounds good! Make a collage if you want larger works. I am trying to keep it all small!

  2. Lovely work! What a great idea! There are usually some parts of a painting that are successful, even if overall it isn't working. Your original was nice, but I agree that you found some very interesting compositions by cutting it.

  10. Thanks, everyone! I did not like the original and have not had any luck selling larger works, but my ACEOs sell well on Ebay, Etsy and Daily Paint Works. At least I am making enough money to buy more art supplies and take more classes.
