Marbled by Me, 4x4 paper pieces mounted in 8x10 mats PPF

Abstract Marbled Papers
Created by Hand using Golden Liquid Acrylics and Acrylic Inks.

The process was messy, but for my first time I must say I am pleased with the results. However, two of the products used in the making of the marbled papers disturbed me. One is Alum (aluminum sulphate) powder, which is quite toxic and not something I wish to use again. I read afterwards that you are supposed to wear rubber gloves. Oh, well. The other is Oxgall, or Oxbile, which is dehydrated bile from cows, and being a vegan, this one goes against my decision to not use any animal products. I don't even eat honey, so next time I will try the Liquid Starch method and see if that works for me. Kids in school do it and the online pictures looked pretty good. I will post the results next time.

  2. I love your marbling. I don't know if shaving cream is vegan or not, but I have used it to do marbling. Just fill up a flat pan with the foam, add whatever paints or inks you want, do the comb thing and start pulling up papers. The cheaper the shaving cream is, the better.

    1. No way! I have to try that. I ordered some liquid starch online. Cannot find that stuff in the stores. Thanks for the tip, Faye! I shall look for cheap shaving cream.

    1. Hi, Beth. Glad you feel inspired. I got inspired in watercolor class when I saw what you could do with sumi ink. Then I had to have Colors! So off I went on another Art Adventure. I love to play.
