Barn Collage, Lemon, Mouse and Bowl, More nutcrackers PPF

Here is what I have been doing this week . . .

This is the final result of my watercolor class this week. First we painted white tissue paper and masa papers with bright watercolors. Then we sketched our scene on heavy paper and used Gel Medium to collage the torn and cut pieces of colored papers onto the painting. It's like painting with paper bits. I used a scissors to cut many of my strips because the barn needed the boards to look even. The trees in the background were done with salt on the masa paper before knowing what they would be. It is a very intuitive process. After class the next day, I added some shading with dark watercolors to emphasise the interior of the barn, and some white gouache for highlights on the roof and door frames. I hate getting glue all over my hands, but this was fun. I may even do it again.

This is large for me. 12x16 acrylic on canvas board.
I usually paint ACEOs. LOL.
The challenge last week on Daily Paintworks was to paint something in a bowl. I did the lemon, larger than life, in a blue and white ceramic rice bowl. I added the little mouse because the painting needed something in that corner. And he was cute! I guess this would qualify as a still life, too. And maybe an animal painting.

More Nutcracker ACEOs done this week for my 30 paintings in 30 days. They are all sketched from real nutcrackers that actually exist.

  4. What a nice job! The vivid blue in the first one is somewhat otherworldly, and I love the cute mouse near the bowl of lemons. I also enjoyed the nutcracker variations.
