Baby Cow/Calf, Orange Umbrella, Hares not Rabbits, Wet Dogs, Bald Eagle, Spider Web

Paintings for this week, August 15, 2014.Baby Calf Looking for Mama
My first entry for the August Painting Competition on a Facebook site, "Artist Reference Photos" (FREE resource). My version of Raido Holm's calf. This is a 5 x 7 mixed media piece on 300# WC paper. Watercolor, Gouache, Acrylic, pen and ink. Comes with a free white mat so it fits into a standard 8x10 frame. For sale on Daily Paintworks.
A DPW weekly challenge:  August 9, 2014: Paint "Heather and her Orange Umbrella." Here is my painting
from this reference photo (I left out the bicycle)
I used Acrylics impasto (thick paint) style with a palette knife on a 6x6 inch Gessobord.

There were 3 pictures to paint on the Artist Reference Photos this month and I did all of them. This wet dog is Lucky (photo by Debbie Green) with a Ball in his mouth, painted first in watercolor mixed media with ink, and the second one in Acrylic on heavy paper, both come with a FREE mat ready to frame..  5x7 matted to 8x10. The ball is not a baseball or a tennis ball.  It is a sliotar or sliothar used in the game of Hurling, Ireland's national passion.

Above For sale on DPW

I entered this one in the challenge because I liked it a little bit better than the watercolor one. SOLD to the photographer and Lucky's owner in Ireland.
and
Chuck Rondeau's photo on Artist Reference Photos Facebook page inspired this 5x7 gouache painting of an American Bald Eagle. Comes with a FREE mat so you can use an 8x10 standard size frame.

This is not a bunny rabbit, it is a Hare.

I painted it for a woman in the UK who collects Hares, not rabbits. Look it up and see all the differences, from how they are born to what they eat, not to mention hares have longer ears than bunnies.
It is amazing what you learn on the internet from folks you meet.
The top one is for sale on Ebay, and the bottom one is on its way to the UK. The artist I am trading with is going to paint a "surprise" for me because I could not decide what I wanted.

and a Pre-Halloween Painting
Abstract 8x10 Gouache Frozen Spider Web
The mat changes the look of the picture. Colors are more like the one below. It is hard to photograph because there is metallic Gouache/watercolor paint used throughout.

with FREE mat to make it 11x14

See you next week at PPF.  Happy painting!

  4. I can see your joy in all of your paintings ... I am in awe of anyone who can paint and draw as you can ... my best effort would be a stick figure. That said ... some are better than others and you are right up there. Very nice work, Penny ...

  9. Ah, these fill my eyes--which is the greatest compliment I can give. I was especially taken with the little calf with its sweet whiskered nose.

  11. Beautiful! I think me favorite is the calf painting with his expressive face! I had no idea that rabbits and hares were different - I'm going to google that right now! Happy PPF!
