Painted Posies and Painted People for Artomat 

100 Blocks done.  Painted with acrylic, varnished, wrapped in cellophane and ready to ship.

This week I finished 100 Artomat Blocks. They are only 2x3 inches, even smaller than ACEO cards. The 50 Posies in Pots are done and I just finished 50 Painted People.  I then attached them to wooden blocks, glued on my business card, wrapped them in cellophane and will ship them off to Clark this week. Since I have been doing these over the last couple of years, I paint faster and more confidently. Such fun! They will be sold in Artomat Refurbished Cigarette Machines all over the US and AU. I have done several hundred so far, and look forward to doing many more.

50 Painted People, The Process:

First I basecoat the wooden pieces with gesso. People have whitebackgrounds and posies have black backgrounds, for the most part. Depends. Then I sketch out the figures, put clothes on them and add liner work with permanent pen and sometimes some white ink. They evolve as I am painting them. They all have a story to tell, and hopefully the person who gets each one out of the Artomat.org machines will be able to relate to the figures and their narrative.  I don't write the stories.  I just paint the pictures.  The purchaser has to be the storyteller.

Adventures with Peerless Liquid Watercolors

Here are some new Watercolor People and some Bright Colored flowers, ACEO's painted with Peerless Liquid Watercolors.  These have been in my stash for awhile now, and I just started using them, full strength, LOL.  They are INTENSE. Now I am going to water them down a bit and try again!  I use the Peerless WC sheets all the time, but I just had to try the liquids.

"The Crowded Street" ACEO

People line the streets during Mardi Gras, so I probably would not like it. I hate crowds. But here is my version of a crowded street. This was painted entirely with my left non-dominant hand, including the liner work and my signature, for a challenge here on DPW. The washes, which I do first, were pretty easy, but trying to control the liner pen with my left hand was quite a challenge. Oh, that's right. It was a CHALLENGE. I have been trying for a loose, free style, and this actually does not look that different from the others I have done for 30 paintings in 30 days. In fact, I think I like the scribbly look somewhat.   Could be a bunch of kids playing Ring Around The Rosie, or whatever.  It's kinda abstract.

"Walking and Talking" ACEO

Two people, a man and a woman, strolling down the street wearing warm winter coats.  There's a chill in the air, and maybe in the conversation.  She seems to be a little distant and he is trying to console her, or maybe there are too many people around, a crowd, and he is steering her towards their destination.  Who knows?  These little drawings are sort of abstract.  They appear in the painting at the last stage and I have to make up little stories about their lives.  Oh, and it's all happening in New Orleans during Mardi Gras.  ACEO refers to the size - 2½” x 3½” - also called an ATC or artist’s trading card.
