Paint Party Friday: Day 17 of 30 paintings in 30 days
Topic: Food, or Culinary Delights
“Happy Birthday Cupcake #1”
Oil, 6” x 6” on canvas panel
I just finished an intense 3 day workshop using oil paints with a palette knife taught by Leslie Saeta in South Pasadena, CA. Great fun, and I learned a lot, especially about marketing my art, pricing, selling on the internet and improving my web site. Now all I have to do is implement the ideas starting today!
This cupcake is my very first oil painting ever. It is not dry yet, and won't be for awhile. That's one thing I don't like about oils. My acrylics are dry by the time the day's painting session is over, not cured, but dry. The palette knife technique we learned was really interesting but it does not work with acrylics very well at all. The oils give me a headache and nausea, even the ones that are water based, so I am not sure how I will do any more oil painting, but I may try wearing a respirator.
See more of my 30 day paintings in 30 days here.
It's bad that you can't paint with oils without suffering, because you definitely have a talent in that medium. I love this birthday cupcake. Looks good enough to eat.

This is gorgeous but so are all your other amazing food paintings!! Unless there is a fiscal reason to use oils then I'd stick to acrylics.... oils even in house paint are no longer as popular! Probably because of the green thing!! LOVE LOVE LOVE your work!!

ReplyDeleteMmmm! Looks delicious. I'm allergic to oils too, they inhibit my breathing... They're fun, but I'm sticking with my acrylics. Your cupcake is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYum this gives me the idea to bake today. Your food art is truly amazing.
