8x10 Loose Watercolor, pen and ink, for DPW challenge this week.

I am working on taking pictures for the "Wearable Art" section of my Etsy Store, but it takes so much time! It's more fun to make them than it is to list them online. I just got the mannequin and the white cardboard backing so I will try to take a few to show you what I have done this week.

Turquoise Blues and Purple Skarfette and Beret

This is the one I started last week, and the mannequin (I should give her a name!) is wearing my blonde wig. This was taken before I got the white presentation foamcore. Below she is set up with lots of lights, which creates shadows . . . 

I don't know how to do the lighting so I don't get shadows, but you can see the shoulder scarf and Beret pretty good. She has this neutral color skin which I did not like at first, but now I do, because she looks good as a blonde or a brunette.

Or without her wigs wearing a cloche and neck warmer. 

NFAC, Challenges and a Turtle this week, PPF

It's World Turtle Day! Challenges and more . . .

Theme of the week on Facebook 30/30 ACEOs, Turtles and Vegetarian week. My acrylic ACEOs above include " Mr. T." and for DPW we had a window challenge with shadows and leaves and sunlight.

Another ACEO Mini Masterpiece in my series, this time In the Style of Pierre Bonnard, "Bouquet de Fleurs."

And it's time for Nibblefest again, the monthly Ebay contest where we paint to a theme, and the auctions start at 99 cents for a week.  You can get some great buys! Search Ebay for NFAC to find them. This month the theme is "Freak Show" and my two entries are "Rubber Neck Boy" above, and "The Saltimbanques" below, which is In The Style of Picasso in his Rose or Circus period.

St Patrick's Day ACEOs and Floral Postcards for PPF

The theme for this week in 30 ACEOs in 30 Days FB Group is . . . 

All things Green and Irish. The Flower Fairy was a Twofer, since I also added her to the album in another FB group. She was painted from a reference photo. The Leprechaun on the bottom was done at Christmas and he is a nutcracker, but also qualifies for this theme. Since he has not sold yet, I included him. See these and 150 more of my paintings in my EBAY STORE.

I was not much inspired in my watercolor class this week, because they were doing collages and gluing, in order to "save" failed paintings. I just chop mine up into ATC cards!  So I took out some 4x6 watercolor postcards that my grandson had given me for christmas and painted loosey goosey flowers. I like them, especially after they are matted and ready to frame in a 5x7 size. 

They would make a nice grouping in plain black frames! Very colorful, don't you think? I listed them on Ebay and Daily Paint Works.

Here is a 9x12 Abstract, done with Rice Paper and Watercolor. A mixed media collage done in class this week. Not my favorite, but it was interesting. Lots of texture. I don't like to glue very much.

Playing with Paint

9x12 Watercolor on Yupo Paper, loose style, with lots of drippy wet paint. If you haven't tried painting on yupo, it will be an experience to loosen up and let the paint do the work. I like yupo when I feel like playing. It reminds me of fingerpaints. But be careful not to touch the paper because the oils from your hands will prevent the paint from sticking. You can see where I held the paper on the lower left side, my thumb print is there.  But I usually leave things like that because somehow it feels like a happy accident.

Christmas Cards and Watercolors PPF

Watercolor Week

I seem to be in a watercolor mood this week. The class I have been taking for 3 years is on hiatus for Thanksgiving week, so I am not doing any assignments, just playing with fun stuff.  My daughter took a photo of an old teddy bear at the swap meet because she thought I might like to use it for a reference.  I think it would look great in a baby's room, but there are no little ones in our family right now so I am auctioning it on Ebay.

The Red Tulip was fun because it was painted upside down, from a lesson I found online. I love the way watercolors in the background blended using the wet in wet technique.

Here are some Christmas/Holiday cards I painted for the Pasadena Senior Center art show on Dec 3. They will be sold for $5 and the money donated to the center. My weekly Watercolor Art Class is held at the PSC every week, and we have a lovely bunch of artists in the group.

Ponytail Girl Portrait

6x6 "Ponytail Girl," Red Hair, up close face portrait. Done with Acrylic on wood panel, 3/4 inch thick, painted black all around so you can sit it on a shelf, or hang it without a frame if you like. Painted in Chantel's Online Facebook Acrylic Atelier, where Chantel Chantel Lynn Barber shares her expertise and offers reference photos to paint, plus gives critiques of your efforts. I guess I am still in a Floral Mood. I finished 100 Painted Posies for Artomat, and now I am still doing flowers on ACEOS 2.5 x 3.5 inches, in Acrylic on heavy paper for collectors.
