Mexican Folk Art Marionette Puppets Alcohol Ink PPF

ACEO size art, done for a challenge on Facebook
2.5 x 3.5 inches

This pair of marionettes remind me of my roots as "Penny Puppet" because for 10 years I was a puppeteer doing hand puppets, marionettes and ventriloquism.

All marionettes are puppets, but not all puppets are marionettes. Think about it. There are hand puppets, shadow puppets, etc.

I love working with the bright colorful alcohol inks on photo paper (cheaper than yupo) and this time I did not trace or sketch beforehand. I just picked up a brush and started painting. They sort of appeared like this. I think I will not put any background since they are hanging in mid air, like marionettes do, but most of the time these are all tangled up and it can take a lot of time to get them straightened out!

I am leaving the bits of color outside of the lines as well, because the liner work was done last, so it defines the figures, and the extra dashes of color are part of their charm!

IF: Illustration Fridays - Talent: Puppetry

ACEO:  "Ooops!"
Illustration Fridays: TALENT - Backstage Puppetry

This is from first hand experience, guys!  I was Penny Puppet for 10 years doing live performances with puppets and marionettes, and sometimes things happen, like having a puppet slip off during a performance.  I'm afraid this one is destined to fall off the stage and into the audience.  Oh, well! Now that the puppet is off you can see the hand in the two finger puppet position. Some people use only one finger in the head, but then you have a bulge in the tummy. I like it my way better.

Day 13 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days

Day 13
30 Paintings in 30 days
ACEO "Marionettes" - I was a professional puppeteer for 10 years and officially lived as Penny Puppet for that time, so I can understand why hand puppets, marionettes, Punch and Judy and others find their way into my paintings.  It's all connected.  These would be string puppets from a show at Mardi Gras, I suppose.
